‘The Glee Project’ finished this week and I’ve got to say I loved it. It was so different to the usual reality shows like ‘X Factor’ and ‘American Idol’, because they were actually casting for the show. More than that, though, it made me want to work on ’Glee’ more than ever. I mean how could you ever be sad working on a show like that? Yes, I can’t sing or dance, but a girl can dream can’t she?
I want to sing with Nicki Anders and have her critique my terrible voice, I’d like Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy to sit and create a character for me (delightful, English exchange student with no talent, who tries her best and possibly falls in love with Puck??) and I truly feel that despite having no dancing ability whatsoever, Zach Woodley and I could be great friends (he just seems like a really nice guy, you know?).
As much as I envied all the people who got to take part, I also fell in love with them too. I loved Hannah’s attitude and her adorable crush on Damian, I admired Cameron’s bravery when he admitted that it just wasn’t for him and allowed his friend to take his place and I thought Samuel’s performance of ‘Jolene’ in the final was brilliant.
The way it ended was great too. The fact that ultimately everybody won would have been annoying in any other show, but here it just felt right. The final four all had something to bring to ‘Glee’ and the producers and the audience would have missed out had they all not got the chance to be featured in one way or another. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the other finalists were asked to come on as one of the rival Glee Clubs for an episode (Ryan Murphy you can have that idea for free, because I would really like to see it happen).
Overall I thought it was a great show. It was not only a great way of finding passionate, talented people to act in ‘Glee’, but it brought the show to life in more ways than one. We got to meet the showrunners and got an insight into how the casting process works. I’m excited to see the final four when they finally appear on the show, to see how they work with the rest of the cast and also the kind of character’s they’ll be playing. I’m sure they’re gonna be fab.
The finale this week also made me think of a video that Mark Salling (Puck) made during Season 1. It’s a lovely little ode to his new ‘Glee’ family, that will make you even more jealous of ‘The Glee Project’ winners, because really is there anywhere else you’d rather be than chillin’ on ‘Glee’?
Congrats Samuel, Damian, Alex and Lindsay!
