So I recently started taking these vitamin supplements that are supposed to help improve your skin. With Collagen, CoQ10 and Evening Primrose Oil, they claim to improve elasticity and help protect against the visible signs of ageing. Now I generally have pretty good skin, I rarely get spots and as of yet, I don’t have many wrinkles, but I read that these kinds of vitamins are good for you and that they work better than anti-ageing creams and treatments applied directly to the skin, so thought I’d give them a go.
After taking them for a month or so however, I have to say, that I think my skin might be in a worse state now than it was before. It’s a lot more oily, with more breakouts and is generally quite dull and lacklustre. I’m not sure whether this is a direct result of the vitamins or a combination of those and my recently poor diet of left-over Christmas chocolate and sweets, but either way I look terrible.
I’m also concerned that this is God’s way of telling me that I should probably start wearing foundation daily instead of just for nights out. That I’m too old to get away with some blusher and concealer and should probably start caking it on with a trowel if there’s any hope of me looking half-way decent. But considering the fact that I think I look like a man in drag with make-up on (fine in a dark bar where everyone is too intoxicated to know what anyone looks like, not so much in the bright sunlight of a Monday morning), it may be kinder to spare my fellow students the trauma of seeing me all dolled up.
Instead I think I’m going to focus on my diet; drink more water, eat more fruit and veg (think blueberries, pomegranate - lots of antioxidants) and maybe stop taking the vitamins for a while to see if my skin improves without them.
If not maybe it’s time to start thinking about a chemical peel…
